Lt. Governor’s Signature Puts New Redistricting Plan in Place

May 31, 2012, Juneau, AK – Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell signed regulations today to adopt new precinct boundaries for Alaska elections based on the redistricting plan approved by the Alaska Supreme Court May 22nd.

The 485-page regulations package is effective immediately and applies to the upcoming August 28 primary election. The filing deadline for candidates to run for public office this year is scheduled for tomorrow, June 1 at 5:00 pm.

“These regulations and the Court-approved redistricting plan are before the U.S. Department of Justice for approval, but we can’t delay the election,” Treadwell said. “Candidates must file under the deadline set by Alaska state law.”

Fifty-nine out of sixty legislative seats are open.

“I want to thank the Alaska Redistricting Board, the Division of Elections, Department of Law employees, and the public input which got us to this point,” Treadwell said.

The precinct boundaries and maps will be available online tomorrow at
